Method 1: Newly registered domains + DNS (most reliable)
Every day, lists of newly registered domains are published. Most new Shopify stores connect a custom domain, and Shopify tells merchants to point it to Shopify's IP address in the 23.227.38.0/24 range. So:
- Download the daily list of newly registered domains.
- Resolve each domain's A record.
- Keep domains that resolve to
23.227.38.x. - Re-check the rest a few days later: many owners connect the domain after registering it.
In our latest run, this step turned 419,462 domains into 13,982 Shopify stores.
Method 2: Filter out stores that aren't real yet
A domain on Shopify isn't a live store. Open /meta.json on each domain to read the store's country, currency and published product count. Remove password-protected stores, stores with fewer than 3 products and stores outside your target country. In our run, 1,197 open US stores remained.
